Lampenladen

Lampenladen
Lampenladen / lustres

Whilst walking along the canals nearby our hotel, I took this picture of a lustres-store.

Hoteltreppe

Hoteltreppe
Hoteltreppe / the hotels staircase

This staircase is typical for the Amsterdam houses alongside the canals. To occupy as little space as possible, these houses rise up rampantly. We checked in just before breakfast. The rooms are at your right hand side half way up the staircase. The Reception, the dining room are right a the top of the staircase.

What’s the name of this category? It isn’t “street” nor “landscape”, but what does a staircase belong to?

Nadia Hotel an der Radhuistr

Nadia Hotel an der Radhuistr
Nadia Hotel an der Radhuistr / Nadia Hotel at Radhuistr

Taken from Niek Engelschmanbrug overlooking Keizers Gracht. Round about 5 am we arrived at the Nadia Hotel, where we had prebooked a room. Nobody responed to the late-night-portiers-bell. That’s why we were carrying our luggage with us at the first walk alongside the canals. Morning fog was clearing slowly.

Neonbeleuchtung auf dem Damrak

Neonbeleuchtung auf dem Damrak / neonlights at Damrak, Amsterdam, 26. Juni 2006

Only a few people were to be seen at Damrak at 5 am. Taking this picture using a stativ and remote control, is noted with scepticism, disbelieve and pity by the passers-by.

Round about 4:30 am we arrived at Amsterdam central station. The lockers are free to be used from 7:00 am. That means we are walking around Amsterdam heavily loaded.

Regen stürzt vom Busbahnhofdach

Regen stürzt vom Busbahnhofdach / rain pouring from the roof at Hannover bus station, Hannover Busbahnhof, 25. Juni 2006, 23:00 Uhr

The bus stations roof gives little shelter. Of course me and my camera are, where the pain is (rather: where it is soaking wet). ;-)

Abfahrt nach Amsterdam

Abfahrt nach Amsterdam, Berlin Busbahnhof / leaving for Amsterdam, Berlin, central bus station, 25. Juni 2006

Annette waits for the bus via Hannover to Amsterdam. Travelling by bus wasn’t one of our best ideas. Going to Amsterdam on short notice, it was the only reasonably priced way of getting there. Because we couldn’t coordinate our holidays better, we left in a rush.

Glasbierhaus in romantischer Abendstimmung

Glasbierhaus in romantischer Abendstimmung, Amsterdam, Juni 2006

Glasbierhaus in romantischer Abendstimmung /romantic sunset at Glasbierhaus, Amsterdam, Juni 2006

Klaus always says, that’s what he misses, these cafes, where you can sit outside to enjoy a beer or something else. Of course there are those cafes in Berlin, too. Disbelievers check for photos to prove this at Prenzlberg taken by me. Naturally, in Berlin as in Amsterdam, this depends very much on the part of the city you are in. But the flair of Berlin or Amsterdam are not to be compared in any way!

Gracht mit Hausboot bei Nacht

Gracht mit Hausboot bei Nacht, Amsterdam, Juni 2006

Gracht mit Hausboot bei Nacht / canal and house boat at night, Amsterdam, Juni 2006

With this picture I’d like to start the photo session of our trip to Amsterdam. We’ll not start in chronological order, but rather with some impressive pictures of the night. More details concerning the travelling are given with one or the other photo. I appreciate every comment about Amsterdam as well as about the photos.
